1. About ChoreChart Family
ChoreChart Family is a chore, routine and reward application for families, developed by Goodfield Studio in South Australia. It helps parents and children organise household responsibilities, track progress and manage family-defined rewards.
2. Information stored on your device
Depending on how you use the app, ChoreChart Family may store family member names and ages, emoji avatars, chores, completion history, points, reward and savings records, meal plans, dietary preferences, to-do items, pet information, a parent PIN and app preferences.
This information supports the features you choose to use. Local app preferences are stored in the application’s device storage. A parent PIN is a convenience control inside ChoreChart Family; it is not equivalent to device encryption or an account password.
2a. Your weather location
If you want the forecast on the calendar and Family Board, you tell ChoreChart Family which town you are in. You can type it, or tap “Use my location” to fill it in from your device.
Tapping that button asks iOS for permission and takes a single, one-off reading — the app never tracks you, never asks for your location in the background, and never asks again on its own. The reading is deliberately coarse (about a kilometre) and is used once, to work out the name of your town. What is saved is that town name and its approximate coordinates, exactly as if you had typed it. Those coordinates go to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecast, and nowhere else.
If you decline the permission, or never tap the button, nothing changes — type a town name instead, or leave it blank and the forecast simply does not appear. Because the weather location belongs to the household rather than to a device, it syncs with the rest of your data if you have iCloud sync on; it does not follow any individual phone around.
3. Optional iCloud sync
ChoreChart Family is designed to work in a local-only mode. If you choose to turn on “Sync with iCloud” in Settings, family information is additionally stored in your own private iCloud account, using the Apple ID already signed into your device, so it can be available across your family’s own devices (for example, an iPhone and an iPad).
No account is created for this feature and we do not collect an email address or password — there is no sign-in flow of any kind. Apple processes this information as a service provider, within your own private iCloud account; it is not a shared database, and it is not visible to or accessible by Goodfield Studio. Apple’s global iCloud infrastructure may store data outside Australia; ChoreChart Family does not offer a server-region selection for this feature.
Turning iCloud sync off in Settings keeps your local data and simply stops syncing. A separate “Delete iCloud copy” action removes only the copy of your data stored in iCloud — it never touches the information on your device.
4. Optional suggestions, recipes and purchases
Some versions of ChoreChart Family may offer optional integrations:
- Google Gemini: used to suggest age-appropriate chores and points, to propose a fairer redistribution of chores and points across your children, and to generate AI meal ideas. Chore-related requests use age and household context without sending a child’s name; the chore-redistribution feature specifically refers to each child only by an anonymous label (such as “Child 1”), never their real name. Meal generation requests involve only meal type, dietary tags, complexity and any free-text request you type — no per-child information at all.
- Spoonacular: used for recipe searches. Requests may include meal types and dietary preferences.
- Open-Meteo: used for the weather shown on the calendar and Family Board. Requests contain only the coordinates of the town you set as your weather location — never a name, an address, or anything about your family. Leaving the weather location blank stops these requests entirely.
- RevenueCat: used if you purchase ChoreChart Family Premium, or during the TestFlight beta, to manage and verify entitlements and keep them in sync across your devices. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-user identifier and purchase or receipt details (such as which product was bought, subscription status and renewal date). If you're a beta tester and choose to leave an email address to keep Premium after the beta, that email is sent to RevenueCat as your identifier instead of an anonymous one. Otherwise, RevenueCat does not receive your family’s name, email address or any child data, and the payment itself is handled entirely by Apple.
These services receive the information needed to respond to a request and operate under their own privacy terms. When an optional service is unavailable or not configured, ChoreChart Family can use local suggestions or omit that feature.
Requests to Google Gemini, Spoonacular and Open-Meteo are sent through a small server we run ourselves on Cloudflare, which holds the API keys so they are not stored inside the app. It does not keep the content of AI requests. It does keep a short-lived copy of recipe and weather responses so the same lookup does not have to be repeated for every family — those responses describe recipes and weather, and contain nothing about you.
5. Children and family use
ChoreChart Family is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. Children do not create their own online accounts. The app does not include public profiles, chat, social sharing, behavioural advertising or a public leaderboard.
Parents should choose what names and family details they enter and supervise children’s use of the app.
6. How information is used
Information is used to provide the features selected by the family, such as assigning chores, calculating points, showing progress, planning meals, managing household lists and—where enabled—syncing between devices.
Goodfield Studio does not sell your family’s information or share it with advertising networks.
7. Contact form
If you contact ChoreChart Family through the support form, we collect your name, reply email, enquiry topic and message, plus any optional device, operating-system or app-version details you provide. We use this information only to review the enquiry and respond.
Cloudflare Turnstile checks submissions for automated abuse. Messages are delivered to Goodfield Studio using Resend and a copy of the enquiry details is stored in Goodfield Studio’s Cloudflare database for support records. A one-way hash of the submitting IP address is stored for reporting; the original address is not stored and cannot be recovered from that hash.
8. Retention and deletion
Local information normally remains until it is removed in the app, the app’s data is cleared or the app is uninstalled. Uninstalling can permanently remove local-only information.
If iCloud sync is enabled, uninstalling the app does not delete the copy of your data stored in iCloud — it remains in your own private iCloud account until you use “Delete iCloud copy” in Settings, or you manage it yourself through your Apple ID’s iCloud storage settings. Turning iCloud sync off by itself does not delete that copy either; it only stops syncing and leaves your local data, and the existing iCloud copy, untouched.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical measures appropriate to the app, including HTTPS for supported online services. There is no sign-in or password for iCloud sync — it relies on your device’s own Apple ID and iCloud account security, and your iCloud data is stored in your own private per-Apple-ID iCloud account rather than a shared database. No storage or transmission method is guaranteed to be completely secure.
Keep your device passcode secure and maintain a device backup if the information is important to your family.
10. Your choices
You can choose local-only use, decide which optional features to enable, edit family information in the app and remove information you no longer want stored. Available controls may differ while ChoreChart Family remains in development.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as ChoreChart Family’s release features, service providers or legal obligations change. The date at the top will show when the notice was last revised.
