How BetaSuite came out of a gap we saw ourselves
BetaSuite is one of Goodfield Studio's own products, not a client engagement — designed, built and shipped end to end. This is the problem it was built to solve, what we built, and who uses it today.
The gap
Most beta-testing tools are built backwards. They're designed for the company running the beta — distributing builds, managing tester cohorts, collecting telemetry — on the assumption that the company controls the tooling. The person actually doing the testing, holding a pre-release robot vacuum or a prototype drone and trying to document exactly what it just did wrong, is left with whatever's left over: a notes app, a phone held at an awkward angle, a bug report written from memory an hour later.
That's the kind of friction Goodfield exists to notice — the same ground-floor pragmatism behind everything else we build: solve the problem people are actually hitting, not the one that looks good in a slide deck. So we built the tester's tool that didn't exist.
What we built

Nothing gets missed
A rolling capture buffer runs in the background, so an intermittent fault that's gone before you can react still gets saved with one tap.
Built for NDA work
A confidential mode locks out cloud uploads and cloud AI entirely, while on-device AI keeps working — so testing a genuinely unannounced product doesn't mean giving up useful tooling.
No server of its own
Project data is encrypted on the device. Nothing moves anywhere until the tester chooses a destination — there's no vendor backend quietly collecting it.
Reports that write their first draft
A structured report drafts itself from the markers and feedback already logged during testing, instead of starting from a blank page at the end of the week.
A checklist that can't quietly skip a step
Reusable test protocols run step by step with a real verdict against each one, so the same steps don't get re-typed — or silently dropped — every cycle.
What it's used for now
BetaSuite is built for people testing physical products in the field — robot mowers, robot vacuums, drones, e-bikes, smart-home gear and appliances — plus the companion apps that ship with that hardware. It turns a testing session into tamper-evident, timestamped evidence and a report the manufacturer's engineers can actually act on, whether that goes back through a formal beta program or straight to the team building the product.
